LFYC is a special learning environment designed to provide a rich and rewarding musical experience for each singer.  The youth  study and perform a variety of music from simple unison folk songs to contemporary  musical literature.  Both sacred and secular repertoire is selected.  Although some repertoire necessarily changes from year to year, a continuing “core” repertoire is repeated yearly so the children have a familiar base of musical experience upon which to build.  LFYC seeks to develop singers’ musicianship and vocal artistry, sight-reading skills, and good vocal sound production habits.  Each singer is provided the opportunity and challenge for both small and large ensemble participation.  Members are constantly encouraged and challenged to achieve to the maximum of their capabilities.  Musical concepts such as melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics, form, style, and tempo are taught during the rehearsals.  These concepts are taught through singing, listening, analysis, and self-evaluation, using the methods developed by composer and educator Zoltan Kodaly. Singing is a powerful personal means of musical expression, and is the major focus of the musical experience in LFYC.  We hope this experience will form the foundation of a life-long relationship with music for the singers and their families.
